I wanted to make a unique lamp, and I'd long been fascinated with steam-bent wood, and this project let me combine both! So many lamps with shaped bases leave the exposed rod sticking straight up the middle. Why put so much work into creating a sculptural lamp base just to slap its artistic elements on top of its functional ones, with no attempt to integrate the two? My goal was to bend the wood in such as way that the ugly rod is invisible, and here's the result. Although I no longer steam-bend wood in my shop, I'm still able to create this beautiful lamp in any size you'd like.
